Our walking holidays in Spain are based in Júzcar, a small white village nestled in the Alto Genal, an unspoilt part of Andalusia. It is 10 miles from Ronda, and just over an hour from Malaga, the nearest airport.

The Alto Genal is probably one of the best areas for walking in Spain. Between its dramatic limestone outcrops and its oak and sweet chestnut woodlands stretching as far as the eye can see, the Alto Genal offers a myriad of gorgeous footpaths of different levels of difficulty ranging from easy to intermediate.

This area is amazingly lush all year round but excels In spring where everywhere is ablaze with colours from hundreds of varieties of wild flowers: Sweet-pea, Lupin, Field gladiolus, Periwinkle, Poppy, Love-in-a-mist, Orchid...

Wildlife also abounds in Spring and is especially thriving with butterflies (Swallowtail, Scarce Swallowtail, Morocco Orange Tip, Small Tortoise Shell, Cleopatra...) and migrating birds (Bee-eater, Hoopoe, Night jar, Booted Eagle, Short-toed Eagle, Griffon Vulture, Golden Eagle...).

The sweet chestnut woodlands offer pleasant shade in spring and summer for walking, stunning hues in autumn, and a treat for those who like roasted chestnuts!

We will also walk in the Alpine National Park 'La Sierra de las Nieves', a walking paradise situated close by, where a rare native type of Pine called Pinsapo grows. You will enjoy amazing views over the Alto Genal, Ronda, and in clear days, over the Costa del Sol, Gibraltar and Africa.

Probably one of the best areas for walking in Spain, with an incredible variety of scenery! Many typical Pueblos blancos and sites of interest such as Ronda to visit nearby too!
